Academic Case Study
Case Studies
Case studies should be enlightening to those who may encounter similar problems. Ideally, in medicine, a case study should describe a particular medical case in detail, describing the patient's background and any clues the doctor finds. They should discuss the investigation to determine the diagnosis or to differentiate between possible diagnoses, and should indicate the course of treatment the patient received as a result. Therefore, as a whole, no matter during the training or on the basis of continuing education, case study should be an informative and useful part of every doctor's medical education.
Case studies represent an opportunity to spread the benefits of knowledge across physical boundaries by observing a case in one place and at one time. This is not to blame "incorrect" treatment, but to emphasize geographical differences in practice, for example, or a clearer description, so as to explain a case more completely and accurately.
By proposing, peer reviewing, and reading case studies, you and your peers can gain a broader understanding of clinical diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.
