Propolis

Propolis is a natural resin mixture, which is made by bees from certain parts of plants, buds and secretions. Due to the wax and mechanical properties of propolis, bees use propolis to seal openings and cracks, smooth the inner wall, and act as a protective barrier against foreign invaders (such as snakes, lizards, etc.) or weathering threats such as wind and rain when building and repairing beehives. Bees collect propolis from different plants, mainly from poplar in temperate climate.
